1. The programming problems will be distributed one half hour before students are allowed to use any computers. Team members will be able to discuss the problems among themselves during this time. The contest director will answer questions to clarify the problems during this time. Proctors will not be available for about one hour after the students begin to use their computers.
2. Programming problems will be completed as a team effort. Each Senior 5 and Intermediate 5 team will be allowed to use 3 computers. Each Senior 3 and Intermediate 3 team will be allowed to use just one computer. Each Junior 5 team will be allowed to use 2 computers. If a team brings its own computers it will use those. Otherwise, computers will be provided as above. No machine or storage media may have any previously written programs. Printers are not permitted. Teams may save written programs waiting to be scored.
3. The only materials allowed are writing implements and blank paper. Students will need these materials at the start of the contest when the programs are distributed.
4. Senior 5 and Intermediate 5 teams will have 5 programs to write. All other teams will have 4 programs to write. Programs are worth 5, 10 or 20 points as indicated on the top of each program sheet. The level of difficulty of each program will vary. Programs can be done in any order. Outputs when printed to the screen may be printed in order or clearly numbered. Outputs must stay on the screen so they can be scored prior to that output scrolling off the screen.
5. When a team decides that it has completed a program or no longer wishes to work on a program, a team member will indicate this to a proctor. The proctor will then allow a team member to enter the test data either by data, input or file statements at the team’s option. As always, all data must be entered in one RUN of the program. If a program stops prior to all of the data being entered, the program may not be restarted.
6. At 12:30 PM students will no longer be allowed to modify programs. However, programs may be run with the test data after that time. Any program run after 12:30 PM will have an execution time limit of 10 minutes.
7. All appeals to the programming problems must be given to the contest director by 1:30 PM. Appeals must include a complete description of the problem.
1. There will be a single round of problems. For Junior 5 teams there will be 8 questions with a time limit of 45 minutes. All other teams will have 12 questions with a time limit of 60 minutes. The tests will all be multiple-choice with 5 alternatives. The score sheet requires a #2 pencil. Please bring pencils to the test. Categories may include all categories tested during the regular monthly contests and the following:
JUNIOR – Add all Boolean operators
SENIOR AND INTERMEDIATE – Add Assembly Language, What Does This Program Do ( ACSL BASIC) and Regular Expressions and FSA’s..
2. The only materials allowed are pencil and blank paper. The test will have an optical scanner answer sheet that must be completed in pencil. No appeals will be granted for errors on the answer sheet. If an error is made on the answer sheet, a new answer sheet should be completed.
3. All appeals must be submitted to the contest director by 3:30 PM. All appeals must include a complete solution to the problem.
